The Pt-100 Bearing Temperature Detectors (BTDs) are used for temperature sensing, measurement and control of these bearings. These detectors provide an early warning sign or shutdown upon a sudden temperature rise in critical machine parts caused by tight and worn out-of-round bearings. It also detects tight packing glands, cracked or broken shafts, tensional vibration, power or compressor cylinder overload, lack of lubricant flow and many other sources that can avoid costly repairs caused by bearing failure. The BTDs are mounted on the Bearing housings by providing suitable tapped holes.
The RTD has metallic elements whose change are resistant to temperature if arises when operation, a small excitation current is passed across the element, and the voltage, which is proportional to resistance, is then measured and converted to units of temperature calibration it will automatically turn off the motors. This applied in electrical motors, transformers, all steel plants and alternators. The output signal of detectors is a resistance signal, which varies linearly with the temperature. This signal is given to a temperature indicator / controller for achieving the desired measurement and control. Temperatures up to 500o C can be monitored and controlled with these detectors. They are mostly housed in a metal stud which is fitted on bearing housing on tapped holes. Output of bearing detector is used in similar way like RTDs.
